Book by medical historian B.A. Nakhapetova, written on the basis of a large number of archival and literary sources, talks about the medical secrets of the Romanov house. Its first part is devoted to the topic “Power and Health” and talks about the ailments of the most august persons - tsars, emperors, empresses, as well as individual great princes from the Romanov family. The author examines various versions of the causes of death of the Russian emperors Peter I, Alexander I, Nicholas I, Alexander III, ultimately rejecting the theories of “conspiracies” and “the activities of sabotage doctors.” The second part of the book tells about the life and works of court physicians - the elite of the Russian medical class. The collected materials made it possible to reconstruct the social appearance of the court doctor at various stages of the almost 300-year existence of this institution in Russia.
