A traveler searching for rare plants on the islands of Polynesia meets a telegraph operator, whom locals respectfully call “Mr. Graves.” Graves, having learned that a new acquaintance is collecting plant seeds, says that in the central part of the island there are many flowers that are not found on the coast, but because of the taboo of the islanders, access there is impossible.
