William Fetler (1883 - 1957) is one of the outstanding figures of spiritual awakening in Latvia and Russia - pastor, evangelist, poet, writer, translator, publisher, teacher and father of thirteen children. Having received God's call to spiritual work, Fetler begins his studies at Spurgeon Bible College in England. After his studies, he went to Russia for missionary service, where he founded and built churches in St. Petersburg and Moscow. He is arrested and expelled from Russia. In the United States of America, Fetler establishes a Bible Institute to train spiritual workers among the Slavic peoples. In 1923, Fetler returned to Latvia and developed extensive evangelistic work. The Temple of Salvation is being built - the largest church building in Latvia. Guided by God, before the outbreak of World War II, he and his family went on a missionary trip abroad, not knowing that they would no longer be able to return to Latvia. What can 21st century Christians learn from this servant of God, a giant of spiritual work? Christian churches need constant spiritual awakening so that they can fulfill their mission in the world. When believers earnestly pray for revival—the work of the Holy Spirit in churches and in their personal lives—and forsake their sins, the obstacles to revival are removed. Fetler called on believers not to become like the world in their views and lifestyle, but to devote themselves to Christ one hundred percent. Secularization and modern methods of evangelism do not create lasting fruit, they are created by the Spirit of God through a person who is completely devoted to Him.
