Troubles 1598–1613 became a complex and deep-seated crisis for ancient Russian culture, marking the beginning of the “transitional” century. Ideas and ideas characteristic of the Moscow state underwent a dramatic transformation during the period of the “interregnum”. The influence of the Troubles can be traced throughout the 17th century. Nevertheless, the semiotic aspects of the crisis and the unusual cultural collisions that arose after the death of Fyodor Ivanovich and the end of the Rurikovich-Kalitich dynasty have rarely been the focus of attention of historians. What explanatory models spread in society during the “troubled” years? What mythologies were updated by scribes to understand the unique events of the “interregnum”? What changes came to culture as a result of the Troubles? The book represents an attempt at a comprehensive study of these issues based on a hermeneutical analysis of a number of famous works of the first quarter of the 17th century. For historians, philologists and anyone interested in the history and culture of Russia.
