The book “The Holy Great Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John” was compiled in accordance with the course of gospel events and is distinguished by the breadth of topics covered. Its pages present the historical reality in which the Forerunner of the Lord preached, explain the Old Testament sacred rites and rituals, and characterize the rulers of Palestine and the followers of rabbinic teaching: the Pharisees, Sadducees and Essenes. The book is based on the Holy Scripture. The Gospel text and interpretations of the holy fathers gradually reveal to the reader the personality of the great Baptist and his service to the world before Christ went out to preach. An akathist to St. John the Baptist, in church hymns called “the world preacher of repentance,” is published in the appendix.
