Son of Sam or Sons of Sam?..On August 10, 1977, the NYPD arrested David Berkowitz, the .44 Killer, better known as the Son of Sam. Berkowitz admitted that he shot fifteen people, killing six. During interrogation, he made a shocking statement - a demon dog ordered him to kill. The case was officially closed. Journalist Maury Terry was suspicious of Berkowitz's confession. Fueled by conflicting witness accounts and evidence overlooked during the investigation, Terry was convinced that the Son of Sam had not acted alone. Carefully collecting evidence over ten years, he published his findings in the first edition of Absolute Evil in 1987. Terry theorized that the Son of Sam attacks were orchestrated by a cult in Yonkers that may have been affiliated with the Church of the Final Judgment Process and was responsible for other ritual murders throughout the country.
