Georgy Georgievich Demidov (1908–1987) was born in St. Petersburg. A theoretical physicist, a student of Landau, he was arrested in February 1938. In Kolyma, where he spent 14 years, Demidov met Varlam Shalamov and subsequently became the prototype of the hero of his story “The Life of Engineer Kipreev.” Demidov’s works are not just memories of prisons and camps, they are a deep philosophical understanding of life’s path, embodied in magnificent prose. The writer’s first book is a collection of short stories “Wonderful Planet”, published by Vozvraschenie publishing house in 2008. “Orange Lampshade” (three stories about the thirty-seventh) continues the publication of the literary heritage of Georgy Demidov in the “Memoria” series.
