The most complete biography to date of the famous General Secretary of the Comintern, figure in the Bulgarian and international communist and labor movement, national leader of post-war Bulgaria Georgi Dimitrov (1882–1949). To recreate the hero’s life path, the author used an extensive corpus of documentary sources, scientific research and previously inaccessible archival materials, including his diary (1933–1949), which was not published in Russian. The major events and phenomena of the first half left a deep and dramatic imprint in Dimitrov’s biography XX century - wars, revolutions, mass popular movements, the victory of socialism in the USSR, the fight against fascism, innovative social projects, division of the world into spheres of influence. Therefore, Dimitrov’s biography goes beyond personal fate and brings to us the image of a bygone era. It touches on many issues that remain the subject of public interest and debate today. As the lessons of the past are comprehended, the author believes, the portrait of Dimitrov will be supplemented with new colors.
