The action of the novel “Rose's Children” by the famous English writer, poetess, translator of Russian poetry Elaine Feinstein takes place in 1970. But the heroes of the novel, Alex Mendez and his ex-wife Lyalka, who fled Poland, are haunted by the memory of the Holocaust. Alex wants to understand the nature of evil and reads Maimonides. Lyalka forbids herself to remember the Holocaust. Meanwhile, English aristocrats invade Alex’s life: Lee Walsh and her lover Joe Lacey. For them, the children of the youth revolution of 1968, the Holocaust means nothing; they are only concerned about the situation in third world countries and the fight against the bourgeoisie. Lyalka, in an attempt to return to the past, goes to Poland. And although the Holocaust is over, new tragedies are inevitable.
