The story of the famous German writer Hermann Hesse, “The Soul of a Child,” is largely autobiographical. So, in the story, an eleven-year-old boy, wanting to have some things next to him that belong to his beloved father, steals several wine berries from his room. Hesse describes the feelings of his hero with love and understanding. He is very lonely, he is tormented by feelings of guilt, fear and despair, which are replaced by feelings of humiliation and shame after the discovery of the loss and the identification of the perpetrator of the “malicious act”. The artistic power and expressiveness of the text suggest that we are talking about a real event. This is confirmed by an entry in the diary of Hesse’s mother: on November 11, 1889, she noted: “It turned out that Hermann stole the figs”...
