The name of Evgeny Kharitonov (1941–1981) is still little known to readers. Although he did not publish a single line during his lifetime, he nevertheless had a huge influence on modern avant-garde writers or postmodernists, as critics call them. Director, playwright, writer - he was known only to a narrow circle of metropolitan bohemia, but now we can say with confidence that he had a unique talent, and his works have no analogues in Russian literature in their frankness and confessionalism. Evgeniy Kharitonov’s first book was compiled by a verified drafts of the manuscript “Under House Arrest,” which was circulated in samizdat, as well as unpublished texts by Kharitonov, memoirs and criticism about him.
