Viktor Vasilyevich Grishin is a major Soviet political figure. 1952–1986 he was a member of the CPSU Central Committee: in October 1964, it was he who prepared the text of N.S.’s statement. Khrushchev about his retirement, which Khrushchev signed. In June 1967, V.V. Grishin was elected first secretary of the Moscow City Committee of the CPSU, and in 1971–1986. he was a member of the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee. After the death of K.U Chernenko, Grishin was considered the most likely candidate for the post of General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, but was removed from power by M. Gorbachev and deprived of all his posts. V.V. Grishin died on May 25, 1992 in the district social security office, where he came to apply for a pension. In his book, written shortly before his death, Viktor Vasilyevich Grishin wrote the whole truth about the fierce struggle that went on in the Politburo between the “statists” and “ liberals" and which ended in the victory of Gorbachev’s group, which ultimately led to the destruction of the USSR. Evidence from V.V. Grishin are unique and represent valuable materials for the case of the collapse of the Soviet Union - a case now being considered by the court of history.
