Legends about the campaigns of Alexander (356-323 BC) appeared a century after the death of the king and by the 3rd century. n. e. formed into "The Romance of Alexander". This publication presents for the first time the best examples of simple Latin prose of the Middle Ages: “The Tale of the Birth and Victories of Alexander the Great”, “Alexander’s Correspondence with the Brahmins”, “Alexander’s Letter to Aristotle about the Wonders of India” - seasoned with instructive stories about how Alexander got rid of the poisonous maidens, defeated the basilisk, discovered the City of Brass, descended into the depths of the sea, reached the walls of Paradise, stole stones from the Diamond Valley, built the wall of Gog and Magog and finally met his death on the iron earth under a golden sky.
