The significance of the works and exploits of St. Sergius of Radonezh cannot be overestimated. With St. Sergius, the spiritual revival of the Russian people, the “golden age” of monasticism in Rus', and cultural and moral upsurge began. Thanks to him and the efforts of his students, dozens of new monasteries appeared, many of which still exist today. The monk was called “the lamp of the Russian land,” “the educator of the Russian people.” The saint did not leave a single line of writings, not a single teaching, but his entire life, subordinate to the Gospel commandments, became an example for his contemporaries and descendants.
