Our root world suddenly had the ability to split. At certain key moments, he gets a kick in the other direction of development and moves away from the main direction of the flow of history. Technical progress, political development, everything proceeds differently in copies of the root world. In some places, the USSR is more alive than all others and is quite prosperous; in the unluckiest copies of the Union, the collapse began earlier and was more bloody. The diversity of worlds gives the Universe a chance to find something universal and focus on what is successful. To study this, scientists created the Directory. Field agents called “walkers” go into the “wormholes” punched by scientists. Their main mission is to search for great scientific discoveries. But most often they have to engage in banal smuggling, speculation and searching for people needed by the Directory. The plot is based on the adventures of two young walkers Mikhail and Semyon. The book is an adventure, partly frivolous, but there are enough Easter eggs in it.
