Twenty-eight-year-old Louis XIV, powerful and loving, decides to transform a modest hunting castle near Paris into the greatest palace in the world. And so, by his order, Versailles was erected, a marble poem framed by marvelous parks, statues, fountains, flower beds and groves. The king rules a vast empire where the sun never sets, but in the heart of this empire - in France - things are not at all brilliant, the state of finances is deplorable, the palace builders are ready to rebel, and the nobles are not at all eager to part with their feudal privileges. Versailles, the king's dream, becomes a paradise for the conspirators.
