It used to be that a fraer was a person who did not belong to the world of thieves. At the same time, the meaning of this word was closer in meaning to the current word “sucker.” Currently, the word fraer in many regions has acquired the exact opposite meaning: this is a person close to thieves. But this is not a thief. This can be either a sucker or a thieve, who for some reason does not have the right to be crowned. For example, a person who does not live according to concepts or has previously committed any sins from the point of view of the thieves’ Law, but is not a bitch or lawless. People who occupy a worthy place in the criminal world are now called fraers. To designate a simpleton, such words as “stamp” (“stamp”), “loch”, “futsan”, “deer”, etc. remained. Fraera today are worthy prisoners, ordinary “Spanish” brotherhood. Beaten friar, evil guy, boyish tribe - a person who knows how to stand up for himself, a person who is not easy to deceive, capable and able to fight back. An honest fraer or trump fraer is the highest fraer hierarchy, i.e. a prisoner who has earned respect among people, who is taken into account, even having a voice on the gangways, but still not a thief. Dissidents, “politicians”, “spies” - people who have earned respect and honor in the “thieves’ world” since the early 60s - belonged to the “fraer” class. And they have established themselves as “spiritual”, that is, people with character, will, courage - those qualities that are valued in the “vagrant” circle.
