Olga Butler's British essays, first published in Nezavisimaya Gazeta, have as much national flavor as traditional English pudding and Sunday roast dinner. Written in beautiful Russian and sprinkled with English humor, stories about modern Britain, but not forgetting its traditions, will not leave anyone indifferent. But the book is not 100% easy reading. Pastorals and funny skits coexist with articles about British politicians and social problems: how English children “build” teachers, the generation of unemployed created a baby boom, and political correctness is changing the English language.
