The study is devoted to folklore and literary archetypes in the poetics of N.V. Gogol. For the first time in Gogol studies, the role of archetypes of folk ritual culture in the poetics of the writer is comprehensively studied, folk archetypes in the late works of N.V. Gogol are systematically examined, the question of ways and techniques for implementing biblical and medieval literary archetypes in the structure of Gogol’s texts is being addressed in a new way, principles of interaction are being established verbal and pictorial discourses in N.V. Gogol’s ekphrasis, new aspects of studying the problem of the Dantean archetype in the writer’s work are revealed. The research is comprehensive, combining literary, art, folklore and ethnographic approaches in the analysis of the works of N.V. Gogol.
