In 1980, a ferry was built at the Meyer shipyard in the German city of Papenburg, which fourteen years later went down in history under the name “Baltic Titanic”. On the night of September 27-28, 1994, the ferry Estonia sank in a stormy Baltic Sea sea halfway between Tallinn and Stockholm. This is, perhaps, the only thing that we know reliably about one of the greatest tragedies of the turbulent 90s of the twentieth century. The novel offered to the attention of readers is one of the few works of fiction (and perhaps, so far, the only one of its kind) telling about hitherto unknown events that preceded this disaster.
