The world immediately dressed in white and black, lost its shades: white snow - black earth, white “we” - black “they”. Nationality became a stigma, yesterday's neighbors turned into sworn enemies, but this no longer seemed strange to anyone - after all, every resident of the City lost loved ones and relatives under bullets and shells fired from the once neighboring side. Martha will also face new losses and trials - she will learn to live in the middle of war, find friends, love and forgive when two sides are to blame and both are equally hurt. And also - to appreciate life at any moment, and not just a second before the explosion. The book is a winner of the Krapivinsky Prize in 2014.

Глибока і зворушлива історія про війну та людяність
Ця книга справила на мене величезне враження. Автор майстерно передає емоції та переживання головної героїні Березні, яка стикається з жахіттями війни та втратою близьких. Читати про її трансформацію з звичайної дівчинки в сильну особистість, яка вчиться жити в умовах війни, було дуже зворушливо. Книга не лише про страждання, але й про надію, дружбу, любов та прощення. Вона змушує задуматися про цінність життя і важливість кожної миті, навіть у найтемніші часи. Я б рекомендував цю книгу всім, хто хоче зрозуміти, як війна впливає на людей, і як важливо зберігати людяність, навіть у найскладніших обставинах. Це дійсно вартісне читання, яке залишає слід у серці
