A lonely man on a business trip scours a city park in search of casual connections - at first glance, the frivolous plot gradually heats up to a deep penetration into the existential crisis of both characters. Despite their outwardly completely different lifestyles (the mysterious Fyodor Kuzmich, like mercury, changing his name and biography for each new companion; and the simple and open Vera, throwing herself into new relationships, each time believing that this time it’s forever), the heroes are very similar among themselves - lost people wandering around the park in search of new self-deceptions. The sharp dialogue (the characters exchange witty remarks as if they were playing ping-pong) is conducive to putting on stage a light-hearted retro-comedy “from Soviet life.” Interpreting the work in the tragicomic genre will most likely help not to lose valuable minutes of the characters’ psychological reflection about their loneliness, their attempt to understand themselves.
