The main character of the novel, Sasha, who emigrated to Israel several years ago, has just learned that his wife has decided to leave him. Enraged, he walks off into the night. He has nowhere to go. A chance acquaintance with a girl radically changes Sasha’s fate. He learns that the separation from his wife was not accidental, and he is the “thirty-sixth righteous man,” one of those spoken of in medieval mystical belief. From this moment a chain of amazing events begins in Sasha’s life.
