The story is based on real events: the sensational trial in the United States of the Russian thieves' authority Slava Yaponchik and the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange. However, it would be a mistake to classify the novel as a one-day affair, depending on the political situation. The novel is deep, with nerve, and has many literary merits and discoveries. The author managed to combine in one work the seemingly incompatible: realism and mysticism, dry journalism and the poetics of high love.
