Moscow life, which seemed so attractive from afar, becomes a cruel school of life for the main character of the novel, Lisa Uspenskaya. She has to deal with both the inhabitants of the Moscow “bottom” and capricious society ladies. In a moment of complete despair, she meets the man she soon realizes she has been looking for all her life. But, despite mutual love, happiness with him is not easy.
