The book, written by a Romanian writer, poet and journalist, truthfully describes the details of the military labor camps of the Nicolae Ceausescu regime. The author is familiar with the topic firsthand - having joined the army in 1985 after graduating from military school, he found himself at the construction site of the famous “House of the People” in Bucharest. The construction of the building turned out to be one of the most ambitious projects of this kind in history - suffice it to say that it required the destruction of a fifth of the city's historical buildings. To this day, the unfinished building remains one of the largest monuments in Europe - and at the same time a monument to one of the most inhumane regimes of the 20th century. After the publication of this terrible, shocking book, supporters of the by that time already destroyed regime persecuted the author for allegedly taking place “ release of state secrets."
