The issue opens with the documentary novel “The Dead” by the Mexican writer and journalist Jorge Ibarguengoitia (1928–1983), translated from Spanish by Olga Kulagina. The main plot line of the book is connected with the professional activities of two sisters - brothel keepers. But if the beginning of the story is still marked by the famous Latin American love of life and good nature, then as events develop, the darkness thickens, and the book becomes more and more reminiscent of Truman Capote’s reportage novel “In Cold Blood,” and these dispassionately described crimes are committed in the United States and Mexico almost simultaneously.
