No matter how great Pushkinianism is, we still do not have a completed monographic work that illuminates Pushkin’s creative path throughout its entire length. One of our greatest Pushkinists, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences D. D. Blagoy, devoted most of his life to the development of this Topics. His fundamental study “The Creative Path of Pushkin (1813–1826),” published in 1950, deservedly received high critical praise and was awarded the State Prize. This work, which continues what he has done and at the same time has completely independent significance, covers 1826–1830 years in Pushkin’s work, years of creating wonderful lyrical masterpieces, “Arap of Peter the Great,” the poems “Poltava” and “Tazit,” “Tales of the Priest and His Worker Balda,” small tragedies. Analyzing all these works in detail, the author generously shares the wealth of his observations, often shedding new light on one or another of Pushkin’s creations. D. D. Blagoy’s book fills a significant gap in our literary criticism. Vivid and lively presentation makes it accessible to the widest circles of readers.
