Mathias Malzieu is a writer and rock singer, vocalist of the most popular band in France, Dionysos, which he created in 1993. Malzieu's first two books - "38 Mini-Westerns" (2003) and "Now That It's Always Night Over You" (2005) - were enthusiastically received by readers and critics, and "Mechanics of the Heart" brought him real literary fame. The plot of this poetic tale for adults will remind you of Andersen’s work. Jack was born in Edinburgh on “the coldest day in the world” and his heart instantly froze. Abandoned by his mother, the boy is adopted by the sorceress midwife, Doctor Madeleine. She inserts a watch into his chest, which helps his heart beat, but Jack cannot fall in love - the fragile heart mechanics cannot withstand such an ardent feeling. However, the grown-up Jack unwittingly violates the ban when he sees a little street singer on a walk... The novel is written in the style of a musical and forms the basis for the album of the same name by the Dionysos group. The rights to the film adaptation of “Mechanics of the Heart” were acquired by Luc Besson’s film company.
