Anna does not have an easy life in the world. She has no parents, only an “aunt,” Mrs. Preston. This girl doesn’t get along well with her classmates, she’s not interested in anything special, except maybe daydreaming. It’s not surprising that everyone around her thinks Anna is weird and prefers not to get involved with her. Maybe there really is something wrong with her? But Anna has no one to share her doubts with - after all, she doesn’t have a soulmate. At least, it wasn’t until she was sent to the sea to stay with an old friend, Mrs. Preston. It was there that Anna met a girl named Marnie - her first real friend. You can share secrets with Marnie, it’s so fun to play in the dunes and pick mushrooms with her, and she lives in the mysterious Swamp House, which for some reason immediately seemed familiar to Anna... Only sometimes Marnie suddenly begins to behave very strangely, and Anna involuntarily thinks: "Is she real?" For that matter: is Anna herself real? And what really connects two dissimilar girls from completely different worlds?.. “When Marnie Was Here” is the first work for teenagers by British writer Joan Robinson, author of children's books popular all over the world. Soon after its publication, the novel was nominated for the prestigious Carnegie Medal, and in 2014, the world-famous Studio Ghibli, created by the famous director Hayao Miyazaki, released the animated film “Marnie Memories” based on the book. The story of Anna and Marnie's friendship took eighteenth place in the famous list of fifty children's books that Hayao Miyazaki recommended for mandatory reading.
