Both of them are trying to survive in London at the end of the 19th century - a boy, of which there are plenty, and a wolf, the only one in the United Kingdom. Both experienced in their own skin what it’s like to be needed only when you bring in income. Thirteen-year-old mudlark Clay is a tramp, looking along the banks of the Thames for at least something valuable that its waters will bring. He and his friends are called the Dreadfuls of Blackfriars Bridge. An honorable name and a place of bread had to be won in fights: fists are sometimes better than words. Fog is the most dangerous predator, exhibited in a cage for the amusement of the circus audience. Getting to know the backstage of a traveling circus will make Clay reconsider his views: violence will not achieve anything. And the main character is ready to prove this to both his gang and the whole of London - even if the whole world turns against him. Italian writer Marta Palazzesi creates a real hymn to freedom, stubbornness and humanity. Her characters captivate with their utmost sincerity and willingness to fight to the end for what they consider important, no matter how difficult this battle may be.
