We live in a world much more turbulent than we would like to think, but the science we use to analyze economic, financial and statistical processes or phenomena largely ignores the important chaotic component of the nature of the universe. We need to get used to the idea that extremely unlikely events are also part of the natural order of things. The eminent Hungarian mathematician and psychologist László Mérö explains how two worlds, “wild” and “quiet” (which he calls Diconia and Tichonia), coexist and shows that they have different laws.
