As a literary genre, utopia has existed almost as long as history itself. Therefore, while remaining a specific genre of artistic creativity, it at the same time expresses stable ideas of consciousness. In the book, literary utopia is considered as a phenomenon of Russian fiction. Artistic topology allows one to penetrate into those layers of a person’s understanding of the world that are impenetrable to other analytical means. The main subject of analysis is the depiction of a non-existent place in Russian literature, but it is a pose; the problem of being is considered as if “from the inside out”. The author explores some features of the national imagination, comparing them with similar features of Western European and Eastern (for example, Arab, Chinese) utopias.
