In a vacant lot among the high-rise buildings of the city of Beselj, located somewhere on the edge of Europe, the body of a murdered woman is found. To police inspector Thiodor Borl, this seems like a routine matter. To carry out his investigation, Borlu must leave gloomy Beshel and travel to the nearby city of Ul Qoma, which is experiencing economic growth.
