The work touches upon and examines in detail such a relevant and controversial topic of modern criminal law as the principles of sentencing. The general and special rules for imposing punishment contain the most important, fundamental ideas of criminal law policy in the field of application of punishment. The unification of the criminal legal space of the CIS is an objective and natural need for the development of interstate relations, a guarantee of ensuring the security of vital benefits of the individual, society and the state. It is in this direction that the criminal legislation of most CIS member countries is being updated. The author attempted a comparative legal analysis of that part of the criminal legislation of the CIS member countries that determines the principles of sentencing, focusing mainly on the problems of its unification and improvement, and developed recommendations for taking into account the principles of sentencing in judicial activities, formulated and proposed solutions to a number of methodological and theoretical problems.
