The historical story “On the Shore of Don the Great” tells about the preparations for the Battle of Kulikovo both in Rus' and the Golden Horde and about the battle on the Kulikovo field on September 8, 1380 between the Russian army and the Mongol-Tatar army, which ended in victory for the Russians warriors. Many defenders of the Fatherland died in the battle, but the victory showed the superiority of the Russians over the Mongol-Tatars. This was the most important event for the historical fate of the Russian state. The central place in the book is occupied by the image of the Grand Duke of Moscow Dmitry Ivanovich - a patriot, a wise statesman, who gathered a large army during the period of princely civil strife in Rus' and stood in battle next to the militia soldiers.
