A new change in the fate of Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire: they will now live in one of the most fashionable areas of the city in a huge apartment at the very top of a multi-story building. Their new guardians - Jerome and Esme Squalor - seem to be quite good people, but they, like the previous guardians, are unable to protect the orphans from the insidious machinations of Olaf and his vile accomplices. And again, the Baudelaires have misfortune ahead - an iron cage where their friends are languishing, dark stairs, a statue of a red fish and endless disappointments.
