It is 1897 and a young couple is running through the mountains of Norway. Unni, who miraculously escaped imprisonment, and next to her, always protecting her, walks the tramp Armud. All they have is Unni's little son, her box of medicinal herbs and love for each other. Through the snow they cross the Swedish border. In an abandoned cottage in a clearing, between human land and wild nature, a small family makes their home.In 1973, two widows sit opposite each other at the table that Armud made seventy years ago.
