“The Mistress of Blossholm” - a historical adventure novel - is being published in Russian for the first time. The novel takes place in England in the first half of the 16th century. The abbot of the abbey - the strong, powerful and cruel Abbot Maldon - pursues the orphan Sicely Fotrel, trying to take possession of her inheritance - a huge estate and rare jewelry. To achieve his goal, Maldon, hiding behind the words: “All for glory church and for its prosperity,” resorts to meanness and crime. The novel clearly characterizes the reactionary role of the Catholic Church.
