In a new book from the series “New sources on the history of Russia. Rossica Inedita" publishes "Siberian Notes" by Ippolit Canary, which are the author's memoirs of his service in the Irkutsk province in 1811–1813, written in the genre of literary compositions of the era of sentimentalism. The memoirs contain both valuable features of official life and descriptions of an ethnographic nature. In them, real events in the biography of the author - a middle-ranking official close to Masonic circles - side by side with fictional ones, which gives the Siberian Notes the character of a literary hoax. The book is addressed to historians and cultural experts, as well as a wide range of readers.
