A lot has been written about the war. This is both fiction and memoir. This large list contains materials about the Great Battle of Rzhev. Unfortunately, historians and memoirists do not recognize him as “great,” and much of those difficult years were presented in a distorted and embellished form. We know very little about how people lived and fought the enemy in the occupied territory. But staying in the lands captured by German troops was incredibly difficult, much more difficult than in the rear. This prompted me to start searching for specific documents, memories of eyewitnesses, in order to, to a certain extent, more fully and, most importantly, more truthfully restore the picture of the occupation of Rzhev and the region. Ten It took me years to search, and in the year of the 50th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, I present my purely documentary book to the readers. I have collected many facts about the deaths of Soviet soldiers and officers in German camps, assembly points for prisoners of war, about executed Red Army soldiers and commanders emerging from encirclement. After all, here, near Rzhev, two of our armies were surrounded - the 29th and 39th. Many of the dead are still listed as missing, although every person receives a first name, patronymic and last name at birth. Where are they, these first and last names, in what books are they listed? I had the opportunity to work in the archives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the KGB, and the GRU. I was lucky to receive photographs and photocopies of German documents from the US National Museum in Washington. But it is still not possible to obtain copies of archival documents of the Abwehr, SD, and GUF. The archives of these former German bodies contain a great deal of information about the events and facts of that time. And most importantly, they could help reveal the identities of nameless soldiers who died behind German lines. However, a number of surnames were still restored and I was preparing the book in the hope that readers, primarily from the old residents of the city and region, would help to some extent reduce the number of unknown soldiers. When preparing the book for printing, I had photocopies of seven books, published in Germany in German. Separate chapters of them are devoted to military operations near Rzhev. I would like to emphasize that, without dealing with issues of strategy and tactics of military operations, I have formed my own opinion about the role and significance of the Battle of Rzhev in the war with Nazi Germany.
