Few people have heard of this woman, and even fewer have read about her. Although she was at one time both the Secretary of the Comintern and the People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs. Lenin called her “one of the outstanding activists of the communist movement.” Angelika Balabanova (1877-1965) was a die-hard revolutionary. She always openly declared that bureaucracy and corruption would destroy Soviet power. Balabanova called Stalin’s “great terror” a “bloody caricature of socialism.” For this, her name was deleted from all archives and library collections. However, today she is among the 500 greatest women in the world.
