Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Teffi (real name Lokhvitskaya) was a real literary star in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century. Her sharp mind, elegant style, ability to see the bright sides of life and share her observations with the reader made her works literally universally loved. But as often happens with masters of ironic prose, Teffi’s laughter was mixed with tears. This is especially noticeable in the writer’s memoirs - about the old Russia, gone forever, about the Civil War, about the forced journey into emigration, about friends and acquaintances from among the creative intelligentsia and their mental turmoil and the difficult choice of their fate in revolutionary Russia...
