Algorithms control the operation of the electronic devices around us, thanks to which the existence of our amazing digital world becomes possible. In essence, a computer program is nothing more than an algorithm written in a language that a computer can understand.  However, the reign of algorithms in computing is only a short episode of a long and interesting history that began with the birth of computing.  This book tells the history of algorithms, and also describes the most important features of calculations and computer technology, starting from the first counting sticks and ending with computers, without which it is impossible to imagine the modern world.
