An extremely useful, easy to read and highly scientific book for anyone interested in the life, customs and deeds of the Vikings. The author is a pretty Danish woman, a professor at Aarhus University, Else Roesdal, who has written more than 20 books about the Vikings; they have not previously been translated into Russian. The publication was made possible thanks to the support of Danish scientific organizations, such as the Royal Danish Scientific Society, the Axel Jensen Scholarship Foundation, etc. The publication is well illustrated. The book is divided into two parts, called "Scandinavia" and "Expansion". The first part details the appearance, hygiene products, clothing, housing, festivals of the Vikings, the structure of society, the ships they sailed on, coins and goods, and finally, religion and skaldic poetry. The second part talks about why the Vikings went on their famous campaigns and how they went, about the lands where the Vikings visited and how they got along with the local population. The reader will be able to learn about the results of the latest excavations, about Viking settlements in Normandy, Scotland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
