For the main character of the story, fifth-grader Nastya Zommer, staying at home alone is a terrible problem. It would seem that everything is good in her life: Nastya herself is an excellent student, her parents are caring and friendly, she has a faithful friend Tina. However, Nastya is afraid of everything in the world and secretly dreams of a guardian angel who would support her in difficult times. But instead of a guardian angel, a guardian ghost appears in Nastya’s life - a lady with a tragic past named Rosa Riedl, who begins to take care of the girl. In 1944, Rosa died before she could help her neighbor, who was humiliated by fascist stormtroopers. A big and noble task was not completed, so she turned into a ghost to help the weak and defenseless. As is always the case in the books of the witty and insightful Christine Nöstlinger, incredible events are closely intertwined with real life, which means there are many uncontrollably funny places in the story and unexpected storylines.
