Oxana Bulgakova’s book “The Voice as a Cultural Phenomenon” is devoted to the analysis of the perception and cultural existence of voices from the mid-19th century to the end of the 20th century. Considering various aspects of voice practices (in the opera and drama theater, on the political stage, in cinema, etc.), as well as historical features of perception, the author explores the dynamics of the relationship between natural and artificial (mechanical, electrical, electronic) voice in different cultures countries She dwells in particular detail on the uniqueness of the Russian understanding of voice.
