The novel “Mithridates” depicts the events of the distant past, when ancient Crimea (Taurids) came under the rule of the Pontic king Mithridates the Sixth. This book crowns the historical trilogy, begun by the author with two volumes of the novel “At the Pontus Euxine” (“Great Scythia” and “Uprising on the Bosporus”). However, “Mithridates” is a completely independent, plot-isolated work. The author tells about the fate of the people of the Bosporan kingdom during the Third Mithridatic War, when the peoples of the East defended their independence from Roman expansion. The period of action is from 80 to 63 BC. The novel was written as a result of the study of many historical materials, supplemented by the creative fiction of the author. A number of author's corrections and clarifications have been made to the text.
