I think the story "Chapman" is one of the best modern stories. In this period, the author describes the events of the beginning of the Second World War. We meet the incredibly outstanding hero Dixon - a man very talented in the art of war, who led a very quiet life. One day he met the beautiful Mary in a local village pub, after which he realized that from now on he only wanted to be with her. But a great war came. Throughout the entire story, he thinks about her and dreams that someday the war will end and they can be together.
