Quite a little has been written about Soviet armored vehicles. But in our country, from 1927 to 1945, more than 15,000 light and medium armored vehicles of various types were produced, which were in service with the Red (and then the Soviet Army) until the early 1950s. The production of Soviet armored vehicles was closely related to the development and establishment of the automotive industry. Therefore, until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, armored vehicles in service with the Red Army were manufactured on the chassis of ordinary commercial vehicles. Naturally, their maneuverability left much to be desired. At the same time, the samples created by Soviet designers in the 1930s were the peak of the development of armored vehicles on special chassis. These vehicles especially proved themselves in the Spanish Civil War and the battles on the Khalkhin Gol River in the summer of 1939, where they performed no worse, and sometimes better, than tanks. During the Great Patriotic War, almost all work on the design of new types of armored vehicles was curtailed. Only the light BA-64, designed hastily at the Gorky Automobile Plant in early 1942, remained in production. After the war, work on armored vehicles in the USSR was stopped, although combat vehicles of this class are still produced in many countries around the world. The book, based on previously unpublished documents, tells about the history of the creation of Soviet armored vehicles, their types, design and combat use. Many documents and photographs used in this work are being published for the first time.
